Arriving within Canada
Highway 16 and 5, and Highway 1 and 5 are the fastest and flattest routes to Langley. It’s a common misconception that the mountains to the coast are challenging to navigate. Exhibitors from east of the Rockies will be pleasantly surprised to find that highways are wide, well maintained, and surprisingly flat, other than some long changes in grade at key points. Check out Flattest Route to find the route that’s best for you, and enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way.

Arriving from the United States
After a few years of uncertainty, we are pleased to welcome our American friends and fellow Arabian enthusiasts back to Canada. There are a few misconceptions about crossing the border, so here is some general information to help prepare for your trip to Thunderbird. Be sure to confirm with the appropriate agency or authorities if you have specific questions.
Health and Vaccinations
Horses need a current International Vet Certificate, a Coggins Test and up-to-date vaccines.
People do NOT need a Covid test and do NOT require proof of vaccination to cross the Canadian border. For details, refer to travel to Canada entry requirements.
Passports:
People need a valid passport
Horses do NOT need passports
Border Bond
You do NOT have to pay a border bond to import horses into Canada temporarily for competition, training, breeding or pasturage unless the inspecting officer has reasonable cause to believe that the horses will not be exported. (ie: will not be returning to the United States). Form E29B is also WAIVED for horses imported temporarily for competition. For details, refer to items 107 and 108 in the Temporary Importation Exemption document.
You DO want to have your paperwork in order for inspection by Canada Border Services to identify that your horses are coming to Canada temporarily to compete. Be sure to have copies of your horse(s) registration papers and health certificates when you check in with Canadian Border Services. It is helpful to bring copies of your show entry forms and the show prize list for good measure.
