AHA Literacy Project
What magical, fun and exhilarating times we had as ‘kids’ visited the farm. Arabian horses and good books are helping kids be successful readers.
Gary Millar, Millar Venture Arabians, Fort Saskatchewan, AB
Region 17 Discovery Farm members open arms, books, and barns to spark a passion for reading by providing children who struggle to enjoy reading an opportunity to read to horses, and with horses.
Working with local schools and / or after school programs, members provide teachers with an fun and exciting way to improve literacy by encouraging children to read.
The AHA website provides guidance for interested farms, and a number of templated resources.

AHA Discovery Farms
If you’ve always wanted to experience an Arabian horse up close, start your adventure by visiting a Discovery Farm. You have the opportunity to explore Arabian horses at farms where knowledgeable owners are delighted to introduce you to their horses and answer questions in a relaxed, no-pressure, non-sales atmosphere. You’ll learn all about the breed characteristics, and discover what makes this breed truly special. With manyDiscovery Farms across the western Canadian region, you can locate one near you.
If you own Arabian horses and want to share your passion for the Arabian breed with newcomers, sign up to become a Discovery Farm and share your knowledge about the Arabian horse with interested visitors of all ages and equine backgrounds.
AHA will assist you by providing literature to help promote the breed to your farm visitors. The only requirement to become a Discovery Farm is an active AHA membership and a willingness to introduce newcomers to your Arabian horses.

T.A.I.L. (Total Arabian Interaction & Learning)
A horse show can be a great outing for a family that wants to spend a fun day together looking at horses. The AHA T.A.I.L. program evolved to welcome families and individuals. The program’s goal is simple – make people feel comfortable and welcome so that they can learn more about the Arabian horse.
Families can be shown around a horse show venue, discover different farms, watch classes and have questions answered. This program is perfect for Guides and 4H leaders and their groups. It’s an easy and effective way for current Arabian owners and lovers to share their love for the breed with others.
The program’s goal is simple — make people feel comfortable and welcome and they’ll want more of the Arabian horse.
T.A.I.L. has the potential to benefit all facets of the Arabian horse industry. The program helps to put a friendly face on our organization, and also gives trainers and breeders a chance to meet prospective new owners. After the T.A.I.L. experience is over, kids and parents want to know where they can find riding lessons!
Once you feel comfortable with the T.A.I.L. program, share it with your friends, host a T.A.I.L. event and watch your love for the Arabian spread! For advice about how to make a T.A.I.L. event happen in your area, contact AHA at youth@arabianhorses.org.
